Space Crip is where a gender and women’s studies major/disability studies minor at UC Berkeley a women and gender studies grad student at San Francisco State University writes/rants about disability in sci-fi/fantasy and other television and film. After writing my senior thesis on disability and queerness on Farscape, I’m now turning it into a blog to share with all my fellow fanchildren on the internets. I’ll also write about other characters with disabilities on television.

A note on the name: yes, I can use that word.

Great blog! I am currently researching the idea that vampirism (aka. not possessing a soul) may fit within disability narratives camp. I am focusing specifically on Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer as representing the trop of someone who overcomes disability once he has gained his soul. I would be interested to hear your opinion.

I cannot read your blog right now, because I will get all distracted, as I want to read *everything* on it. But I need to finish my master’s thesis- one day, at some point, soon, please- which is on disability fics (and its discontents) . I’ve added your blog to my list of what I will be able to do once my thesis is finished. thank you.

I love your blog! SQUEE DISABLED DORKS! And I want to know if we’re friends on Facebook, and if not, if we can become so?

Hi, also just discovered and loving this blog. Is your thesis online anywhere or would there be any possibility of sending me a copy? I want to briefly reference your comments on Rygel in my own thesis. No worries if not – I can always cite the blog post, but a more academic source would be ideal.

Is there any chance you’d email me your thesis without academic reason? (Beside curiosity, of course)
I’ve been reading through your blog and loving the way you address everything.

People with disabilities? In my sci-fi? It's more likely than you think.
